Canadian University Dubai has launched a Bachelor of Science in Design and Artificial Intelligence (BScDAI), an interdisciplinary programme that blends studio-based design education with computing, mathematics and AI. The degree covers visualisation, interaction design, human-computer interaction, programming and AI-enabled design processes across spatial, product and service design. Applications are now open for the Fall 2026 intake.
The programme reflects a recognition that the old separation between creative and technical skills no longer serves students or the industries they will enter. Students will gain a foundation in human-computer interaction, interaction design, programming, computational methods and AI-enabled design processes. They will learn to apply advanced AI techniques, computational tools and algorithmic thinking to support design decision-making.
Crucially, the programme emphasises human-centred and data-informed design. Students will consider the ethical, social, cultural and environmental implications of emerging technologies. They will evaluate the impact of automation on society while learning to use computational tools to solve real-world problems.
Experiential learning is central to the degree. Students will participate in hands-on design studios, internships and collaborative industry projects. The curriculum also integrates sustainability, entrepreneurship, research and community engagement.
Graduates will be prepared for multidisciplinary roles in digital service design, UX/UI architecture, smart product development and tech-driven spatial design. They will learn to develop intelligent products, responsive physical environments, interactive digital services and user-adaptive platforms.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government introduced the world’s first Master in AI Governance. NYU Abu Dhabi launched a Master’s in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
The BScDAI programme supports the region’s burgeoning design sector by building capacity in creative thinking embedded in computational intelligence. The enhanced curriculum introduces two new interdisciplinary tracks. Parul University in India offers a Master of Design in Design and Artificial Intelligence, equipping graduates with advanced design thinking and the ability to integrate AI into creative solutions. Bennett University in India offers a Bachelor of Design in Product Design with Artificial Intelligence, blending industrial design principles with intelligent technologies.
The fact that universities across different regions are arriving at the same conclusion suggests that this is not a passing trend. The integration of design and AI is becoming a recognised need in higher education worldwide.
Canadian University Dubai’s programme is notable for being among the first in the Middle East to offer a dedicated undergraduate degree at this intersection. It positions the university as a leader in a field that is likely to grow significantly in the coming years.
