National Bank of Egypt Partners Mastercard for New USD Corporate Debit Card

Bank of Egypt and Mastercard collaboration

The National Bank of Egypt has partnered with Mastercard to launch a new USD-denominated corporate debit card aimed at helping Egyptian businesses manage cross-border payments more easily.

A Dollar Tool for a Dollar Problem

The USD Corporate Debit Card is now available through NBE branches across the country, giving companies direct access to secure, dollar-denominated transactions backed by Mastercard’s international payment network. The card is designed to serve both small and medium enterprises and larger corporates, letting them pay international suppliers, service providers, and digital platforms in dollars rather than routing payments through currency conversion processes that can be slow or costly.

For Egyptian businesses, the timing matters. Foreign currency access has been a persistent constraint on companies that import goods or pay for overseas services, particularly after earlier restrictions limited the use of debit and credit cards abroad during periods of dollar shortages. A dollar-linked card tied directly to a business’s own USD account avoids straining the bank’s foreign currency reserves, since funds are drawn from the customer’s existing USD holdings rather than converted at the point of transaction.

Part of a Larger Pattern

This is not NBE’s first collaboration with Mastercard. The two companies previously worked together on Egypt’s first Touch Card, a payment solution designed for visually impaired customers. The new corporate card fits into a wider push by Egyptian banks to expand digital and foreign currency payment options for businesses, a trend also visible in competitor products such as Emirates NBD Egypt’s own USD corporate card, which offers similar overseas payment functionality alongside supplementary cards and real-time transaction monitoring.

Why It Matters for Business Owners

For Egyptian companies that regularly deal with international vendors or subscribe to foreign digital services, a bank-issued dollar card removes a recurring friction point. Rather than relying on informal currency exchange or facing delays tied to limited foreign currency availability, businesses can now draw directly from dollar holdings for routine international payments.

The launch also signals continued confidence from global payment networks in Egypt’s banking sector, even as the country works through broader currency and liquidity challenges. Mastercard’s willingness to expand corporate-focused products suggests an expectation that demand for dollar-based business tools will continue to grow, particularly among SMEs looking to scale their international operations without incurring unnecessary currency risk.
