Cohesity Partners with Google Cloud to Enhance Data Protection

Data security leader Cohesity and Google Cloud have deepened their strategic partnership with a multi-year agreement that significantly expands capabilities for protecting enterprise data against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The collaboration, announced this week, combines AI-powered security, cloud infrastructure, and data sovereignty features to help organizations build more resilient digital defenses.

Combating Rising Cyber Threats

With enterprises losing an average of $540,000 per hour during downtime, the partnership addresses an urgent business need for faster threat detection and recovery capabilities. The integrated solutions aim to help organizations detect threats earlier, respond comprehensively to incidents, and recover critical data rapidly when attacks occur.

Central to the partnership is the integration of Google Threat Intelligence into Cohesity Data Cloud, providing access to insights from hundreds of global threat experts tracking over 450 threat actors and knowledge from more than 1,100 incident investigations annually. This capability enables customers to scan backup data for potential threats, improving containment and minimizing impact.

The companies have also established an incident response partnership between Cohesity’s Cyber Event Response Team and Google’s Mandiant Incident Response teams, allowing them to work together on comprehensive incident response engagements. Additionally, deeper integration with Google Security Operations will help automate security workflows and surface threats lurking in backup data.

AI-Powered Data Intelligence

Beyond security, the partnership introduces new AI capabilities designed to help enterprises extract greater value from their data. Cohesity’s Gaia AI-powered search assistant is being enhanced with Google’s Gemini models and integrated into Google Agentspace, enabling more intelligent data analysis, discovery, and management across enterprise environments.

This integration allows organizations to search across enterprise data regardless of location, using advanced reasoning capabilities to generate insights and complete tasks efficiently. The AI tools are designed to maintain security and compliance while making historical enterprise data accessible to AI agents developed by Google and its partners.

Data Sovereignty and Compliance

As global data sovereignty requirements intensify, the partnership places significant emphasis on regulatory compliance. Google has certified Cohesity as a Google Cloud Ready – Regulated & Sovereignty Solutions partner, enabling enterprises to deploy Cohesity Data Cloud within Google Cloud’s Data Boundary environment to meet jurisdiction-specific data residency rules.

Cohesity FortKnox, the company’s cyber vaulting solution, now supports immutable, geographically-restricted storage on Google Cloud, giving customers policy-based controls for sovereign data management. A planned cyber resilience SaaS offering will feature cloud-isolated recovery from Google Cloud, enabling organizations to restore critical data from a separate, trusted environment even if primary systems are compromised.

Enhanced Cloud Data Protection

The partnership expands data protection capabilities for Google Cloud services. Cohesity DataProtect now supports Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage, and multiple databases with immutable backups that can be stored in Google Cloud or on customer infrastructure. Planned additions include support for Google Kubernetes Engine, BigQuery, and other data-centric services, along with enhanced regional storage options.

All components of the Cohesity Data Cloud are available through the Google Cloud Marketplace, streamlining procurement for existing Google Cloud customers. The companies are also launching joint go-to-market programs, co-selling initiatives, and integrated marketing campaigns to expand their reach to enterprise customers.

Sanjay Poonen

According to Sanjay Poonen, CEO of Cohesity, the collaboration represents a fundamental shift in how enterprises approach data protection. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized that the partnership reflects their shared commitment to helping organizations unlock data’s full potential securely and at scale while building more resilient, compliant infrastructure for customers worldwide.

Some integrations announced in April 2025 are already available, including the Mandiant incident response partnership and Cohesity Data Cloud integration with Google Security Operations. Additional capabilities, including complete Google Threat Intelligence integration and various AI-powered features, are expected to become available through 2025.
