Cloudera and Aramco Plan to Collaborate on Saudi Arabia’s Digital Future

Cloudera and Aramco have announced plans to collaborate on AI-driven digital innovation across the Kingdom. The partnership will blend Cloudera’s data and AI expertise with Aramco’s industry knowledge to accelerate Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation and support its ambitious Vision 2030 goals.

Saudi Digital Economy Set to Soar with New AI Partnership

The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cloudera, a leader in hybrid data and AI platforms, and Aramco, one of the world’s largest integrated energy companies, targets three critical areas (upskilling local talent, developing data-driven business solutions, and advancing AI research and development).

Saudi Arabia’s digital economy already accounts for 15.6% of its GDP, valued at over $131 billion, the largest in the Middle East and North Africa region. With AI technologies expected to add $135 billion to the Saudi economy by 2030, this partnership comes at a pivotal moment in the Kingdom’s technological evolution.

“In seeking to collaborate with Aramco, our goal is to empower local professionals with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in a data-driven economy. By investing in human capital, we’re supporting individual careers while contributing to the broader ecosystem of innovation and growth in Saudi Arabia.” said Ahmad Issa, Regional Vice President of the Middle East for Cloudera.

Building Saudi Arabia’s AI Talent Pipeline

At the heart of this collaboration is a commitment to develop Saudi talent in critical areas like data engineering, data science, and analytics. This initiative directly supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan, which places heavy emphasis on building a skilled workforce ready for the digital economy.

The timing couldn’t be more strategic. Saudi Arabia has recently positioned itself as an emerging AI powerhouse, with plans to build 6.6 gigawatts of AI computing capacity by 2034. The Kingdom also secured $14.9 billion in AI investments during LEAP25, proving its position as a regional AI hub.

According to recent industry reports, while AI investments are rising across the Middle East, AI maturity has fallen by 10 points as enterprises struggle to find skilled professionals who can maximize these technologies.

Transforming Oil and Gas with Smart Technology

The collaboration will also focus on implementing data-driven solutions to enhance Aramco’s operational efficiency using Cloudera’s advanced data management platform. This aligns with global trends in the oil and gas sector, where AI applications are rapidly transforming operations.

From predictive maintenance that reduces equipment downtime to optimization algorithms that enhance production efficiency, AI technologies have shown potential to create significant value in the energy sector. Aramco has already been exploring these possibilities through its Digital Transformation program and Upstream Innovation Center.

“By seeking to collaborate with Aramco, we intend to blend its industry expertise with our innovative data solutions to drive meaningful impact for Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation. We’re excited about the opportunity to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s digital economy.” Issa explained.

Fueling Innovation Through Research and Development

The third pillar of the partnership focuses on collaborative research and development initiatives in AI, big data, and data science. This joint effort promises to develop AI-powered applications specifically tailored to the oil and gas sector in Saudi Arabia.

The R&D focus comes as Saudi Arabia increases its investments in AI infrastructure. Recent reports indicate that the Saudi AI market was valued at over $1 billion in 2024 and is poised for substantial growth. The Kingdom has also allocated $10 billion to back global AI development and innovation.

Cloudera’s hybrid data-cloud solutions provide the foundation for these initiatives, enabling secure data management across environments while maintaining unified governance and real-time analytics capabilities. This approach supports Aramco’s vision in the data and AI field while ensuring security and compliance.

Vision 2030 and the AI-Powered Future

The Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has integrated AI deeply into the Vision 2030 framework, with 66 of the plan’s 96 goals directly or indirectly related to data and AI initiatives.

As Saudi Arabia continues its journey toward becoming a knowledge-based economy, partnerships like this one between global technology leaders and national champions will play an important role. The country’s digital transformation strategy has already helped position it among the top 20 nations globally for AI talent density, outranking several European countries.

“As we seek to collaborate with Aramco, we reaffirm our commitment to helping enterprises accelerate their AI aspirations in a secure and responsible way. Together, we plan to unlock the true potential of data and support Saudi Arabia’s digital economy.” Issa concluded.

With this partnership, both Cloudera and Aramco are demonstrating their commitment to not just implementing AI technologies but doing so in a way that builds local capacity, creates sustainable growth, and positions Saudi Arabia at the forefront of global digital innovation.
