Zayed University has positioned itself at the forefront of artificial intelligence education in the UAE by joining the Digital Education Council (DEC) and launching comprehensive AI programs.

First UAE University Joins Global Digital Education Council

Zayed University became the first institution from the UAE to join the Digital Education Council, connecting with over 90 leading universities worldwide. This membership demonstrates the university’s commitment to advancing AI literacy and responsible digital transformation across its campuses.

The DEC membership allows Zayed University to participate in global working groups, advisory sessions, and executive briefings. Professor Michael Allen, Acting Vice President of Zayed University, explains the strategic importance: “Integrating artificial intelligence across our work is vital to building digital fluency at Zayed University. Joining the DEC allows us to both contribute to and benefit from a global network of education leaders.”

New Bachelor of Science in Intelligent Systems Engineering Launches

The College of Technological Innovation (CTI) will introduce a Bachelor of Science in Intelligent Systems Engineering program this fall. This new degree aims to prepare students to design, build, and manage intelligent systems powered by AI and emerging technologies.

The program addresses the growing demand for AI specialists in the UAE’s rapidly expanding technology sector. Students will gain hands-on experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence applications, and intelligent systems development.

Faculty Training Initiative Reaches Every Department

Zayed University has launched a university-wide faculty training initiative to ensure AI integration reaches every academic program. This comprehensive approach means faculty members across all colleges will receive practical strategies for embedding AI into their course design and teaching practices.

The training program ensures that every graduate, regardless of their major, will have exposure to AI tools and concepts. This approach reflects the university’s understanding that AI literacy has become essential across all professional fields.

AI Research Lab Expands Student Opportunities

The university’s AI Research Lab provides students with access to high-performance computing resources and industry partnerships. Located at the Abu Dhabi Female Campus, the lab enables students to explore machine learning, deep learning, and cognitive computing through hands-on projects.

Students can develop AI solutions as part of their coursework, research projects, and senior capstone experiences. The lab’s focus on real-world applications helps students understand how AI shapes different industries and prepares them for careers in the technology sector.

Certificate Programs for Faculty and Students

Starting this summer, Zayed University will roll out two key DEC initiatives. The Certificate in AI for Higher Education targets faculty and leadership, providing them with the knowledge needed to integrate AI into their teaching and administrative roles.

The AI Literacy for Students program ensures that all students develop foundational knowledge in AI and emerging digital tools. These programs complement the university’s broader strategy to create a digitally fluent academic community.

New Master’s Programs Address Industry Demand

The College of Technological Innovation is also introducing two new Master’s programs in Cybersecurity and Digital Transformation and Innovation. These programs respond to the growing national and global demand for advanced digital skills and specialized expertise.

The programs align with the UAE’s national AI strategy and the country’s goals to become a global leader in artificial intelligence applications. They prepare graduates for leadership roles in digital transformation across various industries.

Global Context and Regional Impact

Zayed University’s AI initiatives align with broader trends in higher education across the Gulf region. The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has established itself as a global leader in AI education, and other institutions are following suit with comprehensive AI programs.

The university’s approach combines global best practices with regional needs, ensuring that graduates are prepared for both local and international opportunities in the AI field.

Future Outlook for AI Education in the UAE

Zayed University’s comprehensive AI adoption strategy signals a broader transformation in UAE higher education. By integrating AI across all programs rather than limiting it to technology departments, the university prepares students for a future where AI literacy is essential across all professions.

The university’s partnership with the Digital Education Council provides ongoing access to global innovations in AI education, ensuring that programs remain current with rapidly evolving technology trends.
