The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), alongside its commercialisation arm VentureOne and telecom operator e&, has officially launched QuantumConnect, a cutting-edge hardware-based encryption solution. This initiative embeds quantum key distribution (QKD) directly into fibre networks, aiming to revolutionise data security in the quantum age.

What is QuantumConnect?

QuantumConnect leverages TII’s proprietary Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology to ensure absolute security in data transmission. QKD conveys encryption keys as quantum particles, ensuring future-proof protection against both current and emerging cyber threats, including those enabled by quantum computing.

Strategic Collaboration

  • TII: Led development of the underlying QKD technology.
  • VentureOne: Commercialises and scales the solution.
  • e&: Brings industry deployment and infrastructure integration.
Dr. Najwa Aaraj

Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, expressed that “QuantumConnect exemplifies our commitment to translating complex scientific breakthroughs into scalable, real-world systems that future-proof critical infrastructure.”

Reda Nidhakou, Acting CEO of VentureOne

Reda Nidhakou, Acting CEO of VentureOne, noted, “Given e&’s leadership in the region, they are the ideal partner for us—we look forward to working with them to make QuantumConnect an industry standard.”

Esam Mahmoud, e& UAE’s Senior Vice President for SMB Sales & Marketing

Esam Mahmoud, e& UAE’s Senior Vice President for SMB Sales & Marketing, emphasised, “Our partnership with TII and VentureOne… reflects a shared commitment to address global and regional challenges in secure communications with future-proof solutions.”

Why QuantumConnect Matters

  1. Defence Against Quantum Threats
Traditional encryption methods are at risk of being broken by upcoming quantum computing advances. QuantumConnect safeguards communications with physics-based security protocols.
  2. Hardware-Level Embedding
Unlike software-only models, this solution integrates directly into fibre infrastructure, creating a robust foundation for encrypted communications across networks.
  3. Regulatory Compliance and Sovereign Capability
Designed with local regulatory frameworks in mind, including the UAE’s Cryptography Executive Regulation and healthcare IT laws, QuantumConnect enhances both security and compliance.

Broader Context

Quantum technologies are rapidly evolving, with cybersecurity concerns driving demand for quantum-resistant solutions. While many current encryption methods rely on math-based complexity, QKD relies on quantum mechanics, making it invulnerable to future quantum attacks.

QuantumConnect sets a regional benchmark in quantum-backed network security by integrating next-gen encryption at the infrastructure level and aligning with national standards—addressing challenges before they become vulnerabilities.
