Elon Musk Announces ‘Dubai Loop’, High-Speed Underground Transit Project to Transform Urban Travel  in the UAE

Dubai is set to transform urban transportation with the launch of Dubai Loop, a futuristic underground transport system announced by Elon Musk and the UAE government. The project aims to connect Dubai’s busiest areas, offering a fast, safe, and low-cost alternative to traditional transport.

The announcement was made on Day 3 of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025, where Musk joined a virtual session with Omar Al Olama, UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.

Dubai Loop: A Transformation for Urban Mobility

Dubai Loop will introduce a network of high-speed underground tunnels, providing seamless connectivity between the city’s most congested zones. The project will be developed in partnership with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, known for building efficient and cost-effective tunnel systems.

“We’re going to announce the joint project of Dubai Loop, which is going to cover Dubai’s most densely populated areas for people to go from point to point,” said Al Olama.

“It will be like a wormhole,” Musk added. “You just wormhole from one part of the city and boom, you’re out in another part. Once people try it out, they will think this is really cool.”

Al Olama also expressed excitement over the partnership:

“We look forward to the partnership, and we’re going to join the first trip, the first pod.”

Why Underground Transport? Musk Explains the Advantages

During the discussion, Musk highlighted the unique benefits of tunnel-based transportation, emphasizing why it is a better alternative to flying taxis and surface-level congestion solutions.

Key Advantages of Underground Transport:

  • No weather disruptions: Unlike flying taxis, tunnels operate smoothly in sandstorms, blizzards, or extreme weather conditions.
  • Noise-free transport: Helicopters and aerial taxis generate loud noise and strong wind force, making them impractical in densely populated areas.
  • Safer mobility: Underground tunnels don’t interfere with air traffic and are more resistant to earthquakes and structural damage.
  • Efficient congestion relief: The tunnel system will ease traffic in Dubai’s busiest districts, improving overall mobility.

“What’s really useful about tunnels is alleviating traffic in congested areas,” Musk explained. “In Las Vegas, we’re busy connecting the whole city with all the big hotels, the convention center, and the airport.”

Dubai Loop is expected to mirror The Boring Company’s Las Vegas project, where tunnels connect major destinations, offering a fast and seamless travel experience.

The Future Ahead

Dubai Loop is set to redefine urban transport, making travel faster, safer, and more efficient for millions of residents and visitors. This visionary collaboration between Elon Musk and Dubai’s leadership will position the UAE at the forefront of next-generation transportation.

As more details emerge, the world will watch closely to see how Dubai once again pushes the boundaries of innovation with this revolutionary transport project.
