MBRSC and SpaceData Partner to Advance Digital Twin Technology for UAE’s Space and Economic Development

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SpaceData, a Tokyo-based startup specializing in space and digital technology integration. The collaboration aims to develop two advanced digital twin solutions, one for lunar exploration and another for economic and urban development in Dubai.

A digital twin is a virtual replica of a real-world system, allowing simulated testing and predictive analysis to improve decision-making. Through this partnership, MBRSC and SpaceData will leverage high-fidelity simulation environments to enhance space exploration, astronaut training, tourism, and disaster management.

Advancing Lunar Exploration with Digital Twins

As part of the Emirates Lunar Mission, SpaceData will create a high-fidelity lunar digital twin to:

  • Enhance mission planning and accuracy using MBRSC’s rover observation data.
  • Provide a realistic lunar simulation environment for UAE astronauts’ training.
  • Replicate 3D lunar surface conditions, improving astronaut preparedness and safety.

Adnan AlRais, Assistant Director General, Space Operations and Exploration Sector, MBRSC, emphasized the importance of this initiative:

“The partnership between the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre and SpaceData is a step toward integrating advanced digital twin technologies into our space exploration initiatives. This collaboration will enable us to enhance the precision and efficiency of our lunar missions, provide immersive training environments for our astronauts, and support Dubai’s ambitious vision for sustainable economic growth through innovative digital platforms. Together, we are not only shaping the future of space exploration but also redefining how cutting-edge technologies can drive progress and unlock new opportunities for humanity.”

Digital Twin for Dubai’s Economic Growth

Beyond space exploration, SpaceData will develop a highly detailed digital twin of Dubai’s urban environment to:

  • Boost tourism through immersive digital experiences.
  • Enable virtual tourism, allowing global visitors to explore Dubai remotely.
  • Support urban planning and sustainable development.

Additionally, by integrating satellite and meteorological data, SpaceData will create a disaster prediction digital twin, enabling:

  • Large-scale disaster simulations to enhance city safety.
  • Climate risk analysis, supporting Dubai’s long-term resilience.

Dubai’s rapid urban expansion makes these solutions crucial in addressing environmental challenges while fostering economic growth.

Bridging Space and Economic Development

The international partnership between MBRSC and SpaceData represents a major step in merging digital technology with space research.

Atsushi Takata, Executive Vice President of SpaceData, highlighted the broader impact of digital twin innovations:

“This international partnership with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre represents a milestone in our journey to make space exploration more accessible and impactful through advanced digital twin technologies. By integrating our innovative solutions with the UAE’s ambitious space initiatives, we aim to empower new possibilities for economic development on Earth and scientific discovery and exploration on the Moon. Together with MBRSC, we are excited to push the boundaries of what is possible, both in orbit and beyond!”

A Vision for Innovation and Sustainability

This collaboration reflects MBRSC’s commitment to international partnerships that:

  • Advance scientific research and technological innovation.
  • Enhance space exploration efficiency.
  • Support Dubai’s digital transformation and sustainability goals.

MBRSC and SpaceData are paving the way for smarter decision-making, enhanced astronaut training, and an innovative tourism experience by integrating AI-driven digital twins into both space and economic sectors.

With applications in astronaut training, smart tourism, and disaster prevention, this initiative strengthens the UAE’s position as a leader in space innovation and digital transformation.
