Dubai Rolls Out Free WiFi Across All Public Transport Stations

Dubai commuters can now stay connected throughout their journeys as the city’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) completed the rollout of free WiFi service across all 43 bus and marine transport stations recently.

The digital upgrade covers 21 public bus stations and 22 marine transport terminals across Dubai. Passengers can access the internet through their smartphones, tablets, and laptops while waiting for or riding public transport.

RTA partnered with telecom provider e& (formerly Etisalat) to deliver the connectivity service. The collaboration ensures passengers get reliable internet access during their daily commutes across the emirate’s public transport network.

Part of Broader Digital Push

The WiFi rollout connects to RTA’s larger digital transformation strategy. The transport authority has been working to modernize services and reduce the need for in-person visits by moving toward self-service digital platforms.

Earlier this year in March, RTA launched its 360 Services Policy to enhance customer experience through digital channels. The policy allows customers to access transport services through shared platforms like the Dubai Now app without visiting physical offices.

The WiFi initiative supports Dubai’s broader vision to become the world’s smartest and happiest city. By keeping commuters connected during their journeys, RTA aims to make public transport more attractive and convenient for residents and visitors.

Network Quality and Expansion Plans

RTA confirmed the WiFi service will undergo continuous monitoring and evaluation. The authority plans to expand coverage and enhance connection quality in partnership with e& to ensure passengers get reliable internet access across all transport modes.

The network covers key bus stations throughout Dubai’s urban areas and marine transport terminals that serve water bus routes across Dubai Creek and other waterways. This comprehensive coverage means most public transport users can now access free internet during their daily travels.

The rollout represents a significant infrastructure upgrade for Dubai’s public transport system. By providing free connectivity, RTA addresses the growing demand for constant internet access among commuters who rely on digital services for work, entertainment, and communication during their journeys.

Transport authorities worldwide have been adding WiFi to public transit systems as passenger expectations shift toward always-on connectivity. Dubai’s complete rollout across its bus and marine networks positions the city among the leaders in connected public transport infrastructure.
