This leadership position reflects the kingdom’s substantial investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure and its commitment to advancing Arabic natural language processing capabilities.
Strategic Investment in Arabic AI
The study highlights Saudi Arabia’s concentrated efforts to build large language models specifically designed for Arabic, a language that has historically been underrepresented in AI development compared to English and other widely spoken languages. Arabic presents unique computational challenges due to its complex morphology, right-to-left script, and numerous dialectal variations across the Arab world.
