Meta has officially launched the Meta AI app, a standalone voice- and text-based assistant built on its latest Llama 4 model.  This follows their earlier announcement to bring users a more personal and accessible AI experience, beyond WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

This marks another new chapter for Meta’s AI efforts.

The app allows users to interact with Meta AI using voice or text, making it easier to ask questions, get recommendations, generate images, or even edit them, all within one conversation. It also integrates across Meta’s product ecosystem, from mobile and desktop to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

“This release is the first version, and we’re excited to get this in people’s hands and gather their feedback,” Meta stated in a blog post.

Talk to Your AI: Voice, Text, and Beyond

The Meta AI app brings enhanced voice interaction using full-duplex speech technology, which enables the assistant to talk like a real person, generating voice responses directly from conversation instead of reading from pre-written text. This voice demo is currently available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

While the app doesn’t yet have live web access, it offers intelligent support using existing Meta data and Llama 4’s enhanced reasoning. Users can explore ideas, dive into complex topics, or just have a casual chat. There are even conversation starters built in for inspiration.

Personalization Powered by Meta’s Ecosystem

Meta AI becomes more helpful the more it learns about you within limits set by users. It can remember preferences like travel interests or favorite activities, and when linked through Meta’s Accounts Center, it can draw from Facebook and Instagram activity to deliver more personalized responses. These features are currently live in the U.S. and Canada.

The app also includes a Discover feed, where users can see trending AI prompts and share their own. Nothing is posted publicly without permission, and users stay in full control of what’s shared.

A Unified Experience Across Platforms

The launch includes a merger of Meta AI with the Meta View app for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. This means users can now start a conversation on their glasses and continue it from their phone or web browser through the app’s history tab. However, users cannot start on the app or web and continue on the glasses yet.

Desktop users will also benefit from an updated web interface optimized for larger screens. The web version includes voice capability, image generation with customizable presets (style, lighting, mood), and early testing of a document generation tool that supports PDF exports.

You’re in Control

The Meta AI app emphasizes privacy and flexibility. Users can choose to enable the “Ready to talk” setting for hands-free voice use, and an icon always signals when the microphone is active.

Meta encourages users to download the app on iOS or Android and start exploring what the AI assistant can do.

“We’re using our decades of work personalizing people’s experiences to make Meta AI more personal. This is just the beginning.” Meta said.
