Saudi Arabia’s Seha Virtual Hospital just claimed the prestigious Zimam Digital Health Award, taking its position as the world’s largest virtual healthcare provider. The win comes as the facility continues to serve hundreds of thousands of patients through remote medical care.

The Zimam Award recognizes the most outstanding health organization in the Middle East and North Africa region. Seha Virtual Hospital and the Innovation Empowerment Center received the honor at the Zimam Digital Health Forum for their approach to digital healthcare delivery.

World Record Holder Expands Its Reach

Seha Virtual Hospital holds a Guinness World Record as the planet’s largest virtual hospital. Since launching in February 2022, the facility has served more than 255,765 patients while maintaining the capacity to treat 597,500 patients annually.

The hospital connects over 224 healthcare facilities across Saudi Arabia. It offers 44 basic specialized health services plus 71 sub-specialty treatments. Hundreds of doctors work directly through the platform to provide remote medical consultations.

Recent data shows dramatic growth in patient visits. Outpatient consultations jumped from just 1,717 in 2021 to 27,896 in 2024. Patient satisfaction remains strong at 86% of users reporting positive outcomes.

Digital Twin Technology Predicts Health Issues

In October 2024, Saudi Arabia launched the world’s largest digital health twin program. The technology creates virtual replicas of individual health profiles using personal medical data and AI models.

These digital twins can simulate non-communicable diseases and predict potential health problems. The system enables early interventions and helps doctors understand how patients might respond to different treatments.

Over 30 million users now access this technology through the Sehhaty app. The program represents a major shift toward preventive care rather than just treating existing conditions.

Healthcare Innovation Hub Grows Startups

Seha Virtual Hospital operates an innovation incubator called “The Sandbox” where healthtech startups develop and test new solutions. More than 24 healthtech companies from 16 countries have graduated from the program over the past 18 months.

The Ministry of Health provides clinical trial support and government certifications to participating startups. This approach positions Saudi Arabia as both a testing ground and launch market for new medical technologies.

Vision 2030 Health Goals On Track

The virtual hospital supports Saudi Arabia’s ambitious goal to increase average life expectancy to 80 years by 2030. The Kingdom has already raised life expectancy from 74 years in 2016 to 78 years in 2022.

Deputy Minister of eHealth and Digital Transformation Abdullah Mohammed Al-Issa emphasized the focus on eight key health outcomes. These targets address the most significant health challenges affecting the Saudi population through digital healthcare delivery.

The Zimam Digital Health Award validates Saudi Arabia’s digital health transformation strategy. As remote medical care becomes standard worldwide, the Kingdom positions itself as a leader in virtual healthcare innovation.
