Saudi Arabia is placing its Vision 2030 digital transformation agenda at the centre of global attention as it takes the stage at Web Summit 2025 in Lisbon. The Kingdom is presenting a $14.9 billion technology investment portfolio, reflecting its ambition to become a global hub for innovation, data, and digital services.

A Growing Digital Powerhouse

The Saudi delegation is highlighting the Kingdom’s rapid progress in building a digital economy, which now ranks among the fastest-growing in the region. Officials revealed that the nation has developed more than 1,300 megawatts of data centre capacity and over 20 subsea cables linking East and West, positioning the country as a key digital gateway between continents.

By 2030, Saudi Arabia’s digital economy is projected to reach $76 billion. This growth is being driven by investments in artificial intelligence, fintech, logistics, and e-commerce. These are all core sectors in the Vision 2030 roadmap aimed at diversifying the economy beyond oil.

Driving Innovation Through Vision 2030

The Kingdom’s presence at Web Summit focuses on attracting global partnerships and showcasing its readiness for the digital future. Key agencies, including Invest Saudi, are using the event to highlight opportunities for collaboration with international tech firms and startups.

Saudi representatives are also emphasising regulatory reforms that make it easier for global talent and companies to operate in the country. Initiatives such as the premium residency visa and startup support programmes signal a new openness to international participation in the local tech ecosystem.

Building the Infrastructure for a Digital Future

The Saudi digital transformation strategy combines heavy infrastructure investment with policy reform. The expansion of hyperscale data centres, enhanced broadband connectivity, and cybersecurity frameworks are designed to create the foundations for long-term digital resilience.

This approach supports Vision 2030’s broader objective: to build a competitive, innovation-driven economy supported by advanced technology and skilled human capital.

A Regional Race for Digital Leadership

Saudi Arabia’s growing digital ambitions come amid increasing regional competition. The UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain are all expanding their AI and cloud ecosystems, creating a race to become the Gulf’s digital capital.

For Saudi Arabia, the challenge lies in execution. Infrastructure development must translate into real outcomes: new companies, jobs, and local innovation capacity. The Kingdom’s success will depend on how well it can align its public investments with private-sector growth and global best practices.

From Vision to Reality

Web Summit 2025 offers Saudi Arabia a chance to prove that Vision 2030’s digital goals are not just aspirations but achievable milestones.

As the world’s technology leaders gather in Lisbon, the Kingdom’s message is clear: Saudi Arabia is building the digital infrastructure and partnerships that could define the next decade of innovation across the Middle East and beyond.
