GEMS Education, a private K-12 education provider, just launched a special AI research center in Dubai. The Global Education AI Hub wants to bring together smart people who work with computers and education to create better ways for students to learn.

The company has more than 90 schools in different countries and teaches over 200,000 students. They also have 15,000 teachers working for them. Now they want to use all the information from their schools to help build better computer programs for education.

How the AI Hub Works

The hub is like a testing ground where researchers and tech companies can try out their ideas. They get to use information from all of GEMS schools, but the company makes sure to keep student names and personal details private.

Baz Nijjar works at GEMS and helps with technology. He says the hub gives partners access to billions of pieces of information from students around the world. This includes how well students do in their classes, if they come to school regularly, how they behave, and if they feel happy at school.

The company follows strict rules to protect student privacy. They only share information that cannot be traced back to any single student. All the data stays safe on protected computer systems.

Who Can Join

GEMS wants to work with different kinds of people and groups:

  • Researchers who study artificial intelligence
  • Companies that make educational apps and software
  • People who design school lessons
  • Groups that want to help make education fair for everyone

Sunny Varkey started GEMS Education back in 1959. He says AI can make learning better for students and help schools work better too. But he thinks it needs to be done carefully and safely.

What Partners Get

Companies and researchers who work with the hub get several benefits. They can test their ideas in real schools with real students and teachers. They also get help to make their programs work better and reach more schools around the world.

The hub connects to a new school called GEMS School of Research and Innovation that opens in August. This school will use AI to help students learn in new ways.

Real World Testing

The hub lets people test their computer programs in actual classrooms instead of just on computers. This means they can see how well their ideas work when students and teachers actually use them.

GEMS has schools that teach different types of lessons – British, American, Indian, and International Baccalaureate programs. Students come from 176 different countries. This gives researchers a chance to see how their programs work with many different kinds of students.

The company already started using some AI tools in their schools in May. They are training teachers to use artificial intelligence in all their subjects.

Safety First

The hub has rules to make sure AI is used in good ways. They want to protect students and make sure the technology helps them instead of causing problems. Any company that wants to work with GEMS must follow these rules.

The company checks each partner carefully before letting them access school information. They only work with groups that want to help students learn better.

Looking Forward

GEMS is talking with universities, research centers, and education technology companies about working together. They plan to announce their first partners soon.

The hub is part of Dubai’s push to become a leader in artificial intelligence. The city has been testing AI programs in government offices and wants to be known for new technology.

Varkey says the goal is to create learning that fits each student’s needs while making sure everyone gets a good education. The hub represents one of the biggest efforts so far to bring AI and education together in a responsible way.

The Global Education AI Hub shows how traditional schools are starting to work with technology companies to change how students learn. By sharing their data safely, GEMS hopes to help create tools that make education better for students everywhere.
